March update

Summary

The project is in Stage 1 (R&D) and has not yet met the necessary conditions to progress to Stage 2. See details in CIP here.

Progress

Hi all, here is the official update for t0wn.

The next update will come in a month (April 26- 2023)

In Short

The project is moving along slower than expected. Some setbacks related to personal issues and working on a CIP to fix governance issues in CityDAO. Note, we have only paid out 4k total, 1k each, in funding thus far. We are slower than hoped, but we are paying ourselves at an even slower pace. With that noted there has been considerable progress toward each of our milestones.

Highlights thus far

  1. We have had conversations with DAO Lens, Polygon, and Aragon regarding the project. Along with some general excitement from a number of DAOs/Web3 Orgs

  2. The landing page and discord server is up and running, please feel free to join (https://www.t0wn.org/). Please just reach out to me or hit the links on the page, we would love to have you.

  3. Scott has had a conversation with a real estate company with space similar to what we want. Essentially space built with an ecosystem in mind. With common spaces that facilitate co-working, cross-pollination of ideas, and just chilling. It is encouraging to learn spaces like the one we seek to create exist.

  4. Scott is looking into a unique method to crowdsource money for the project. He has been in touch with the person in this video, Alex Tabarrok (see [https://foresight.org/summary/dominant-assurance-contracts-alex-tabarrok-george-mason-university/] Note at 26:16 he compares this mechanism to quadratic funding as outlined by Vitalik, Glen Weyl, and Hitzig. It has never been tried, but it is a unique method to coordinate crowdfunding with a specific benchmark in mind, in this case, leasing/buying a property. It would be interesting to try as it could explode and become the new mechanism to crowd-source capital for similar projects.

  5. Scott has contacted Optimism to discuss t0wn as a long-term method to fund digital public goods. In a way, acting like a patent office. It is not always clear just how open-source code is built. t0wn could act as a place to verify what took place and essentially give credit where credit is due. Thus, improving the process of retroactively funding such public goods.

Priorities Between Now and Next Update

In general to just continue to push forward on the fronts above. We would love to hear from anyone with ideas and contacts with other DAOs. We want to continue to build out our network and fine-tune the product we will offer. In point form

  1. Reach out to more DAOs/Web3 Orgs
  2. Continue to look into suitable properties
  3. Continue to build the vision for t0wn

How you can help

Sign up for Discord and reach out to us with your ideas. Although we have focused on internally finding a roadmap for the project, as we move forward there will be more opportunities for others to get involved. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us
