Quality

Real talk. I’m not happy with the quality of Macro - the core experience lacks polish and the discussion and tasks features need UX improvement. I’ve been trying to build to an ‘MVP’ standard, but the reality is that the players in this market are not MVPs, and customers have high expectations.

Going forward, and following the examples of successful entrants to existing markets (e.g. SavvyCal and Fathom), I will only release features when ready, and when I think they’re great.

Here’s how we’ll move to a higher quality product experience:

Close Macro to new signups

Until ready, I will revert Macro to a closed beta. That means no new users will be able to sign up - unless they are invited by an existing user or by myself.

Onboarding new users

There will be a video call to onboard new users to the closed beta. This will allow me help people understand how to use Macro, and hear their needs and feedback.

Tasks and discussion features removed

These features are not being used at present and are missing several showstopper UX features. I will re-release each feature, when, and if, I am satisfied with their quality.

Audience building

As we iterate on the product quality during the new closed beta, I will increase Twitter outreach and content marketing to help build an audience for Macro. This will be combined with collecting emails on the new closed beta homepage.

Ok, so let’s set some timescales on this. I expect the new closed beta to last until June. This should allow enough time for product updates to ensure a consistently high quality across the entire core experience.

Phew.

This is a big change, but, I think, a necessary one.

Best, Tyro.

In what stage was SavvyCal and Fathom when they released to the first 10-100 users?
